Toffees unravel at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur were unbeaten in their last ten Premier League games against Everton, who had not won away at Spurs in a decade so the Toffees were on a hiding to nothing at Wembley stadium. After Idrissa Gueye brought down Dele Alli, a free kick on the left by Christian Eriksen, was met with a powerful header over the top by Heung-Min Son, in the fourteenth minute. In the proceeding sixty seconds, from a long goal kick by Jordan Pickford, and a through ball by Cenk Tosun, the ball was driven wide of the right post by Wayne Rooney. Luck went against the Toffees, when from a Gylfi Sigurdsson corner, and a knock on by Tosun, a headed goal by Rooney was ruled out for offside. But midway through the first half, a threaded pass by Mousa Dembele, through the heart of midfield, was met with a low strike by Kane, that was kept out at full stretch by Pickford, as he dived to his left. Dembele combined again with Kane, but his tame strike was comfortably stopped by Pickford. A three way Spurs move started with Dembele to Alli, before Kane was unable to find the right connection to trouble Pickford. However the Lilywhites took the lead on twenty six minutes, as Eriksen sprayed the ball across to the right, and a strike through the box by Serge Aurier, was tucked away by Son, at close range, to mark his fifth consecutive goal at home. On thirty two minutes, a cross by Jonjoe Kenny spun off Tosun’s head and over. Spurs doubled their advantage two minutes into the second half, as Dier’s pass was shadowed by Eriksen, which set Son free, who swivelled and turned past Kenny, before his low strike was put into the centre of the goal by Kane, from a short distance. The Toffees were left to chase the game as Tosun’s knock on was thrashed over the upright by Rooney. On fifty two minutes from Son’s threaded pass through, the outside netting of the left post was found by Alli. Three minutes later, a stray ball by Gueye, let Kane run through whose low strike was fended away by Pickford. Everton soon changed Yannick Bolasie with Aaron Lennon. In the fifty eighth minute, an over the top ball by Kane, was struck first time by Son, whose effort cannoned off the base of the left post. But within a minute, Kane made it three, as Dier’s ball through trickled off Kane’s left foot and bobbled over Pickford, into the net which made Kane the all time leading Premier League goal scorer for Tottenham Hotspur. The Toffees soon changed Tosun with Dominic Calvert-Lewin before later making a final substitution of Morgan Schneiderlin for James McCarthy. In the seventy seventh minute. The Lilywhites soon took off Dier for Victor Wanyama. In the seventy seventh minute, Wanyama found Alli, who teed up Son, whose shot rebounded off Pickford, before the ball went back to him again from Alli. On the eighty first minute, Spurs capped a four nil victory, when Kane supplied Aurier, who in turn found Son and then a crafted back heel by Alli, opened up the space in the middle of the area for Eriksen, who tumbled the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal. Dembele then made way for Moussa Sissoko before Eriksen was taken off for Erik Lamela. The mid January, early evening kick off concluded with a resounding result for Spurs over the Toffees, their biggest margin of victory in a game against Everton in the past sixty years since a 10-4 win all the way back in October 1958.
